Tasting: Winking Owl Chardonnay
Howdy! Welcome to my 2nd wine tasting. After a quick trip to the local Aldi, I was able to grab this steal.
Name: Winking Owl Chardonnay
Variety: 100% Chardonnay
Region: California
Country: United States
Year: 2015
Price: $2.85
Winery Magazine Review: Classic chardonnay, nothing special but quite pleasant and value for the money
Wine Folly descriptions (page 97): The style of California Chardonnay is much riper, often with ripe apple and tropical fruit flavors. Oak aging and malolactic fermentation give this wine a buttery, creamy texture with nutmeg and baking spices
Personal Review: I drank this wine while wrapping up some homework this afternoon. With the first sniff, I got a strong buttery scent. However with a few swirls and a second sniff, I got a good oak smell. The wine itself tasted okay with notes of green apple. I would agree with the winery magazine review as it is nothing special but is a bang for the buck. I think I would go for a different wine next time at Aldi but I am glad to have tried this one out!
