Wine Tasting: Charles Shaw Cabernet Sauvignon

Name: Charles Shaw Cabernet Sauvignon

Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon
ABV: 12.5%
Region: California
Year: 2017
Price: $2.99
Winery Magazine Review: Really light tasting, doesn't really have the tannins I would expect from a Cabernet Sauvignon. Can't complain too much for $3, but not really worth drinking for enjoyment. Berry, a little leather, fruity on the nose, light finish.
Wine Folly descriptions (98): The world's most popular red wine grape is a natural cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. Primary flavors of black cherry, black currant, cedar, baking spices, and graphite. The rich flavor and high tannin content make it a perfect partner to rich grilled meats, peppery sauces, and dishes with high flavor.
Personal Review: Contrary to many of the reviews, I actually enjoyed this red as it was not overpowering to the palette. Definitely not a great wine but I tasted cherry, oak, smoke, and a bit of acid. I thought it was quite easy to drink and did not have trouble finishing the bottle. Great bang for the buck.
