Wine Tasting: Chateau St Jean Merlot

Name: Chateau St Jean Merlot

Variety: Merlot
ABV: 13.8%
Region: California
Year: 2017
Price: $12.99
Winery Magazine Review: I really enjoyed this wine for the price point. It was full bodied and mild tannins for a new vintage. I could taste some berries and spice, with a hint of vanilla.
Wine Folly descriptions (pg. 131): Merlot is loved for it's boisterous black cherry flavors, supple tannins, and smoky or chocolaty finish. It's often found in a Bordeaux blend with Cabernet Franc. Notes of cherry, plum, chocolate, dried herbs, and vanilla.
Personal Review:  Scents of berries were the main profile I could smell with slight undertones of vanilla This wine was strong to the taste and carried a full body. It coated the mouth and throat with an aftertaste of cream and vanilla. I almost thought the wine was a little spicy but definitely not overpowering.
